Every year we celebrate the successes of the old year with all of our staff and welcome in the new-year together as one team and one family.

The theme of the dinner this year was “Sarong Nite” as each one of our 157 staff and guests attended the event in their own very special traditional sarongs.

Opening the event was our very own Managing Director, Mr. David Sie who said, “The company is very proud of all of you who have achieved so much in 2009, from the Reef day to the Sinking of our second shipwreck. You have all achieved so much in such a short space of time”.

The staff were joined by our valued colleagues from the mainland at the Semporna office, Sales office and the Heritage Hotel during the day for an afternoon of team building games. These included a tug of war, swimming relays between the jetties and even beach sumo-wrestling!

In the evening after a traditional Malaysian Buffet Dinner, various awards were given to the staff and teams who had achieved so much in 2009.

In his speech, the Resort Manager Mr. Luke J COX stated that he too was proud of the achievements that had been made in 2009 and that it was down to solid teamwork and commitment from each and every person on the island. He stated that 2010 was going to be a challenging year for all departments and that he had every faith in the ability of the staff to continue to deliver a premier service.

The Most Improved Department this year was a joint award to the Semporna Office and the Motor-launch team who are the very life-line to the island, whilst the Best Department for 2009 went to the ever-committed Landscape department.

The Most hard-working and conscientious employee award was presented to Assistant Head of Security, Basri Junaede and the Employee of the Year award to our beloved receptionist Jennifer Cervantes.

A staff performance from both Mataking and the Heritage Hotel then took place, including the very first Lion Dance on the year. The evening culminated in directors, management, staff and guests all joining together for karaoke and a boogie nite literally making the whole event a ROARING success!
